TAG Heuer
View HistoryEdouard Heuer founded Uhrenmanufaktur Heuer AG in 1860. The company soon found a niche with its chronographs in timing of sporting events. The TAG Group (Techniques d’Avant Garde) acquired Heuer in 1985 to form TAG Heuer. Today, TAG Heuer is a subsidiary of LVMH.
The Monaco V4, the world’s first belt-driven watch, is introduced.
Famously, Steve McQueen wore a TAG Heuer Monaco watch in the 1971 film Le Mans. The tonneau-cased Monaco chronograph is now produced in a special Steve Mcqueen limited edition.
John Glenn makes the first manned American space flight, wearing a Tag Heuer chronograph.
TAG Heuer's oscillating pinion was a major step forward in reliability of the chronograph mechanism. It enabled a more reliable and quicker starting action, and is still in use in a wide range of chronographs.
